Above was the road sign we imagined. We even priced out putting up a "Sorry About Steve King" billboard on I-80, but instead used our time and money to support the people who were trying to defeat him electorally!
But, the day has come. King lost in a primary to Randy Feenstra. We would have rather seen King lose to JD Scholten in the general election. But, hey, it's like our grandpa always said, "Better to have one less white supremacist representing your state at the highest national level."
We were looking back through all our files with "Steve King" in them. Wow. Let's start from the oldest...
2012: "Kidnap, Rape, and Forced Abortion of a 13-Year-Old-Girl Is Not Against the Law." Way back on The Colbert Report, King's bizarre quote stemming from a bill to outlaw dog-fighting left even Colbert speechless. At 2:42 in this video, he just shouts, "WHAT?!?! ... THAT'S NOT AGAINST THE LAW?! .... WHY NOT?!"
This man went on to serve another 8 YEARS!!!!
2014: Cultural Suicide. Long before Trump, King was kind of the OG-Friend-of-Authoritarian-Fascist-Types. In this, he tweeted support for 2 right-wing European politicians who called demographic changes, "cultural suicide."
2016: It's an Election, THEY'RE COMING FOR YOUR GUNS!!! Defender of freedom.
2016: No Bills. Although, considering Steve King passed ZERO non-post-office-naming legislation in 16 years...
2017: Lay Back and Think of Steve. King mused that the Anglos weren't reproducing enough.
2017: Confederate Flag Finally Taken Down. King left his Confederate Flag on his desk, even after a White Supremacist with Confederate flags shot African-American church goers in South Carolina. But after a White Supremacist with a Confederate flag shot Des Moines-area police officers, King said he, "Didn't want to be associated with violence." So, he's not brain-dead, just an asshole.
2017: Move to Hungary. King endorses another European right-winger, leading us to hope he'd move to Hungary...
2018: People Are "Doing" Steve's Pork. King wonders about Muslim immigrants handling pork. As fate would have it, 2 years later, King would consider these people "essential" and tell them to get to work...
2018: Get-to-Know-a-Nazi In Des Moines! King is invited to speak in Des Moines, a city he doesn't represent. Why? Uhhhh, freedom?
2019: What Committees was Jesus On? After Trump is in office, King, oddly, becomes a pariah in the Republican party, painted as "too extreme" though the party has drifted his way.
He is stripped of Committee leadership after almost 16 years in the House. This whole episode makes him realize what Jesus must have felt. You know, when Jesus laid the groundwork for nativist-Right-Wing politics to enter the mainstream, only to be pushed aside after they took power.
2019: And Speaking of Jesus, How 'Bout All that Rape and Incest!?!?? Speaking about legalizing abortion in cases of rape and incest, King points out that rape and incest have a long, happy history!
Keep in mind, this guy still won 1/3 of Republican primary votes in NW Iowa...
